I used to say this all the time, and I'm guessing that you've said it before too.
Here are some ways I've tweaked my back in the past:
Tying my shoes
Picking up a paper clip
Stepping off a curb
Doing a pre-workout warm up
Moving furniture
Picking up a kid
and many more, seemingly small and insignificant movements that have led to a NOT small VERY significant amount of back pain.
I've had some days spent mostly on the living room floor, with a heat pack, unable to get up and do the things I wanted to do. Aside from the pain, there's also a sense of helplessness that comes with a back flare up. All of the sudden, your entire life is taken over by your back pain, and you're stuck feeling like the person with the "bad back".
After countless episodes of back pain, 4 years of varsity rugby at UVic, and seeing all kinds of medical professionals who couldn't give me the answers I was looking for, I decided to figure it out for myself. I applied to chiropractic college and spent the next four years studying, researching, and learning from the best I could find, so I could help people (and myself) deal with back pain once and for all.
With individualized exercise programming and modern chiropractic care, I've now helped hundreds of people with their back pain. As for me, my back pain doesn't limit my day-to-day life anymore. I can squat, deadlift, run, and sprint, all without fear of re-injuring myself. It hasn't been an easy and it hasn't been fast, but none of the best things in life are.
